Hold times at the IRS have gotten really ridiculous. In my estimation you are lucky to get through to the IRS in 30 minutes. I would say the average hold time is around 45 minutes. The IRS also has this great practice of having you wait on hold for an hour only to be hung up on. I believe the recent budget cuts from Congress have resulted in less representatives for the IRS and therefore longer hold times. Additionally you are much less likely to get service from the IRS' Taxpayer Advocate now. They seem to be turning away more cases than ever.
